Our Story

It all started with one realization.

Grilling was supposed to be a shared moment. Yet the reality was often different: one person grilled while the others sat at the table.

A passionate home cook and event industry entrepreneur noticed a situation that repeated itself time and again: friends sat around the table laughing and waiting for food while one person stood alone by the grill. Grilling was supposed to be a celebration of togetherness, but often it separated people from each other.

When the world paused during the pandemic and empty space appeared in the calendar, the idea kept simmering. What if the grill wasn’t a separate device at the edge of the yard, but a natural part of the table—the place where people already gather? The entrepreneur was used to building communal experiences and bringing people together.

So why did grilling—one of the most important rituals of the Finnish summer—separate people from each other?

The challenge became a project, the project became a business.

The first SocialBBQ Grill Table was born traditionally in a garage—for the family’s own needs. It was an experiment, an idea that had to become reality. One table led to another, feedback strengthened the belief, and the idea began to grow into something bigger.

It soon became clear that this wasn’t just a functional idea, but a genuinely new kind of solution. Research conducted by lawyers confirmed what the creators already suspected: there was no comparable product on the market. It was a unique concept on a European scale.

Once this was confirmed, the product was registered for design protection across the entire EU. The design protection provided security for the development work and gave a strong foundation for determined growth. At the same time, it was confirmation that the idea born in the garage was truly something original—an innovation that not only solved everyday challenges but created an entirely new product category.

Growth, craftsmanship, and a shared vision.

Today, SocialBBQ operates from its own premises in Aura. The facilities include an office and small showroom, as well as storage and production spaces where grill tables are continuously being made for new homes, patios, and shared moments. The growth hasn’t happened by chance, but through determined development work, commitment to quality, and bold entrepreneurship.

Behind the operation is also a strengthened team. The company’s daily work is built on a shared vision: everyone has their own important role. Some craft the grill tables carefully in production, some handle sales and customer service, and some represent the brand and build visibility across Europe.

Growth has also taken a concrete step internationally: the first SocialBBQ showroom has been opened in Italy. It’s a significant milestone on the journey toward the broader European market and proof that Finnish innovation and craftsmanship are of interest beyond the country’s borders. Together, the team ensures that quality, service, and SocialBBQ’s communal philosophy go hand in hand—both in Finland and across Europe.

The basis of my existence is to block all other barbecue grills from the terrace and make you focus and use only me. In my opinion, you won’t need anything else besides me. I want your undivided attention when grilling, smoking, braising and dining. I combine all of those things and I have so many other good things about me that forget about the others and just focus on me.
I want you to gather around me to eat, cook and enjoy. After that you will find that you won’t miss anyone else.

I am change:
When you use me, you no longer want to spend time alone by the grill—you all want to spend time with me. I represent a shift in food culture. Forget Korean BBQ and focus on creating a new Finnish BBQ culture. The culture of sharing food has been present around the world for a very long time (Spanish Tapas, Greek Meze, Italian Antipasto, Korean BBQ, etc.)
With me, you can start creating this culture of sharing and doing things together in Finnish grilling as well.

I am an individual:

My family is really large and diverse. Some of us are dark, some are light. Some of us are big, some are small, and some of us are designed as custom orders for specific needs. Each of us is a unique individual, though. No two of us are alike. We are all the result of domestic craftsmanship and 100% Finnish. We’ve been marked with both the Key Flag product label and the Finnish Design designation. We are high-quality pieces. Our weight tells you that we’re not some one-summer disposable products, but investments built to last. I weigh close to 130 kg, and even my little brother weighs over 100 kg.

I am proud:
I am a proud and self-respecting individual. I am by no means the cheapest product on the market. Nor am I a mass-produced product of a disposable society. I am a product of quality domestic craftsmanship. I am designed to withstand use, wear and tear and the Finnish weather.

I am like a fine wine, only getting better with age.

I am also very proud of my versatility. Although I am a quality barbecue, I am also used a lot as a stylish patio table.
Sometimes my charcoal grill is filled with pellets and people gather around me just to warm up and enjoy themselves.
Sometimes I am used for a long time for various smoking and braising activities.
A Social BBQ product family has been created around me. These are the tools designed for me (plancha, half-parilla, spare racks, smoking cone, etc.) are the best way to showcase my versatility. The semi-parilla ensures, among other things, that small barbecue items don’t fall between the grates into my insides to mess me up. The versatile plancha makes it easy to cook smash burgers, pommes noises, meats, small finger foods, etc. with me. In addition, the plancha can be raised above my heat, acting as a hotplate where I can move the already cooked items to wait/rest.

I’m the reason why it’s always good weather for a barbecue.

I’m flexible:
From minced sausages to tenderloin, Souvlaki skewers to Wagyu meats. From burgers to duck breast. Or even just veg. Anything goes for me. Grill, fry or smoke. From direct fire to reverse searing. Just enjoy the warmth and ambiance of an open fire, or cover me with a cloth and dress me up for Sunday brunch.
I’m flexible and adaptable. Just gather around and enjoy.

I’m easy:
When I was designed, I was built with quality and usability in mind.
I was built to withstand all weathers. no need to hide or hood me. I enjoy the outdoors on the terrace in summer and winter.
After use, often all you need to do is wipe your droppings off me with a damp cloth. Of course, sometimes I need more of your attention. Especially in spring, I enjoy being stroked with sandpaper and having wood oil applied to my surface. I have minimal wood screws, which makes me as stable as a rock. Even after many years, I don’t start to sway or wobble.

I don’t like untidiness, coal/ash dust. I have charcoal containers inside which, when removed for filling or emptying, keep me tidy and happy. These containers also allow you to decide which parts of me you want to use, one or more.
With my optimized kindling and briquettes, using me is quick and easy. No need to inject any smelly lighter fluids into me. I’m done in fifteen minutes and serve 2-3h of quality grilling time at a time.

I’m so easy that with me everyone can be the top chef in their own life.
